Água para todos

On our farm Fazenda Mandacarú we have a beautiful river Riachão. To preserve the river we have built a small dam, a 'barragem'. We could store water, keep the river margins humid and fill water tanks to use for irrigation and for the animals. Many neighbouring farms have profited from this dam.

Unfortunately our dam has already collapsed twice. The plan is now to build a concrete dam that is a lot stronger. We also want to encourage other farmers to build small dams, to replant their river margins and store the water in water reservoirs, as we have done. Also we want to discuss with them the importance to keep the river clean.

For this project we are raising funds in the 'Água para todos'- project, Water for all. The river is not only important for our farm, the plantation and the cows and horses, but also for our neighbours, for the wild animals (birds, deer, monkeys, snakes, ant eaters, capibara, tatú....etc etc.), for the very beautiful but endangered vegetation of this region, the 'cerrado'. The project consists in building a dam, organizing meetings with small farmers from the region, with young students from local universities and high schools to make plans together for the future.

For the first part of this project - building a dam and organizing the meetings - we need around 9000 euros.

Project Éta-Nós

Soon we might all be driving our cars on ethanol or other bio-fuels.

Very nice...but how does it affect our nature, our food, our environment? What about nature, animals and people? Don't they need energy to work, an environment to live? That is what Éta-Nós is about, fuel for living souls!

In July 2009 we organized a holiday week at the farm for children and adolescents and their parents from Montes Claros and Pau d'Oleo around those questions. And a spectacular wheelchair rally through the forest...

The main goal of this week was creating awareness about the importance of water, the production of food and preservation of nature. We had a mix of activities: a litter-gathering competition, clearing the ecological path along the river for the wheelchair visitors, taking care of trees and plants, making biscuits of manioc flour, swimming lessons, ceramics and berimbau lessons, music class and every day a chat about the nature, water and food.

Farmers in the region of our farm Fazenda Mandacarú stopped producing food, use too much river water, and cut too much vegetation. Understandable if you think only about today, but in the end this has disastrous consequences on the river and water supply.
Visitors and day tourists from town wash their cars in the river and throw litter around thinking a little plastic bag does not hurt anyone.

By organizing activities for young people from the region we hope to create awareness and a sense of responsibility. They are ones who will suffer the most when the river dries up and the vegetation diminishes. But they are also the ones who can make a change and cherish and protect their environment.

Projects Berimbau de Ouro

The Brazilian Associação de Capoeira Berimbau de Ouro and the Dutch-based Stichting Capoeira Berimbau de Ouro work together to realize several objects:

  • helping children, adolescents and special groups (handicapped people, women) to develop their fysical, mental and professional skills through capoeira, music, dance and other activities;
  • organizing intercultural meeting and exchange by people of all ages, men and women, all colours, nationalities and cultures;
  • making people realize that culture, nature and peace need to be preserved, cherished and stimulated;
  • and of course organize nice capoeira meetings and parties!

Ambitious? Idealistic? We are trying to do it in our own modest way and you can join us! Go to our different project pages to learn more.

Capoeira is a mixture of martial art, dance, acrobatics and music. When you live it, you live!

Berimbau de Ouro is more than learning capoeira. It's also about helping each other.
