Mestre Marreta, alias Luiz Carlos Afonso, started to teach capoeira 25 years ago as one of the first teachers in Euorope, first in Portugal, later in Paris and today he is based in Amsterdam and Montes Claros (Brazil). He travels all around Europe and Brazil to participate in capoeira workshops, dance and music shows, with his own group Berimbau de Ouro and with 'Capoeira e Bloco Afro'. Occasionally he is invited to other parts of the world, like Singapore and Martinique. Every year he organises the Easter Meeting in Amsterdam, together with Mestre Samara. One of the biggest capoeira meetings of Europe, where hundreds of capoeiristas from Europe and Brazil come together for four days of training, playing capoeira, dancing and partying. In the same period he organizes with Samara the famous Festa do Brasil in the Melkweg. Every year he travels to Brazil to teach capoeira, perform and to work in his projects. Especially the activities on the farm Fazenda Mandacarú and the Escola de Capoeira Berimbau de Ouro have his passion. |
